TEA CANDLE SHELLS, MATCHED CERAMIC WORKS

Candle holders in the form of shells made of porcelain clay.

  • These works are candle holders made of porcelain clay. Press mold of clay slab was used with delicate doilies. The pieces were then shaped around a Styrofoam cylinder. Edging was carved to simulate doily pattern. The candle holders were fired initially to cone 06. Black underglaze was applied to outer surface and gold glaze to interior surface of the bowls. Outer surface of doily pattern was then painted. Underglaze was rubbed off to reveal the doily pattern. Refiring was done to cone 6. Works were completed with cold finish by enhancing the outer shell surfaces with pearlescent acrylic paint.
