Creative Process

Creative process illustrated.

  • This ceramic teapot represents a further artistic progressioin from two prior comparable works, Doggie Bag and I Love Lucy, both of which were teapots designed with motifs of puppies emerging from Chinese take-out containers.
  • One of the main changes for this art work was the introduction of stop-action dynamism to the off-center Miniature Pinscher puppy in its frantic atetmpt to escape the confines of the noodle-packed container. I wanted the box to be crushed because of the breed's greater size and strength. Another objective was to create faux bamboo handles out of stoneware clay, designed in a traditional Chinese form. This proved to an exciting challenge requiring use of multiple layers of glaze to achieve.
  • The spout of the teapot is the puppy's snout. The lid is the fortune cookie atop the noodles in the container.
