  GREENBACK TEA, A CERAMIC TEAPOT

Green Tea is a ceramic stoneware teapot that is wheel thrown with extruded, altered handles.
  • Green Tea Bucks is the second in this series of unique stoneware clay teapots expressing the theme of Green. Its prototype is Green Tea, from which this work differs in a number of important ways, principally by its freely developed handle and more bulbous spout.
  • This teapot is wheel-thrown body, spout and lid. The handle is of extruded clay, which is then altered and folded.
  • Specially-designed and constructed decals, representing dollar bills, are used for overlapping decorative flourishes fused to the surfaces by high-temperature kiln vitrification.
  • High gloss finish is acheved by application of Art Deco Green glaze.
  • Construction sequence:
    • Wheel-thrown teapot body, spout and lid.
    • Handle is hollow extruded clay; it is altered after it is formed.
    • Initially fired to cone 04.
    • Cone 5/6 Art Deco Green glaze applied.
    • Refired to cone 6 with slow cool down.
    • Decals applied. Fired again to cone 010.
    • China paint airbrushed onto surfaces.
    • Keraflex slabs photo silk-screened with dollar bill imagery.
    • Slabs curled and formed into a cone shape, intended as an addition to the lid.
    • Slab fired to cone 10 and affixed to lid as a decorative element.
  • Exhibited at Opening Exhibition, Da Vinci Experience Art Gallery, Falmouth, ME, 2012.
  • Date: 2012.
  • Size: 9.75" x  7.5" x  5".
  • Available for purchase. Price $450.

Dollar-bill decals are applied to the surface in overlapping patterns.

  • Ceramic decals are designed in the pattern of dollar bills to serve to inform the "green" theme.
  • They are created and duplicated for application in overlapping patterns to all the surfaces of the teapot.
